Had a great day today. It looks like we are closing in on the $5,000 mark. Will have an update for you tomorrow.
Tom Burke, Raeshon McNeil, John Ryan, and Sam Young along with Courtney Rosen and Kelsey Lysander, women’s soccer players, came to Memorial Hospital with me today to visit with the kids in the Pediatric Oncology Ward. The kids are absolutely incredible. Each one of them a little shy, but nonetheless full of inspiration.
They were smiling from ear to ear. The first little guy we met was real shy, although he did take a liking to John Ryan. In fact he loved Johnny so much that he challenged him to play him in video games. Johnny’s new best friend did not go easy on him either, he crushed him in the game.
An 8 year old girl said she loved playing soccer, but said what she really wanted was to play football, so she could be a linebacker.
Another girl was working on completing her GED while getting set to go to prom May 1st. Then her next stop was off to culinary school.
One of the other girls we met had been managing her high school’s basketball team, and enjoying the freedom of finally getting her license.
We all walked away remembering one thing, no matter what was going on with those kids, they were always smiling. That was the one thing I remember from working with these kids last year, and the main reason why I wanted to become so involved this year.
Hope you guys have a great night and an even better morning. Thank you for all your support
Mike
