4/27 Thank You

April 27, 2010

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This has probably been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done in my life.  It took a lot more time than I thought it would, but our St. Baldrick’s event was a success.  We were able to raise over $40,000 at our event.  Through all of your help, I was able to personally raise over $10,000.

Many of you not only donated, but also passed along great messages to me.  You will never know how much those meant to me.  I can honestly say that having the privilege to play for this university was and will continue to be the greatest experience of my life, and you the loyal fans of this university are the biggest reason why it has been such a life changing experience.

Some other stats from the event:

295 men and women shaved their heads

99 men and women donated their hair

Over 400 men and women got extensions

54 Football players came out to shave their heads, with an additional 10 or so coming out to support the cause

Since so many guys came out to shave their heads, not all could stay for the final picture, but I’ve included a picture of 27 guys who were able to stick around.  26 of the guys in the picture shaved their heads, you’ll see Goody decided to get extensions…We still love the kid though.

A few other thank you’s I’d like to send out:

My parents and brothers, Andy, Sue, Chris and Nick, they’ve always been there for me and God only knows where I’d be without them.

Coach Weis, Coach Brown, and Coach Polian without these guys pushing for a five foot nothin, 100 pound walk-on to get on the field, none of these stories would have happened.  I owe these guys more than I’ll ever be able to repay them.

Chad Klunder, Tim McDonnell, and Dave Peloquin were instrumental in getting the word out to the guys, clearing everything with compliance, and helping me put this video together.

Coach Kelly was also big in pushing guys to come out and support the cause.

Reuel Joaquin and Tim Collins for helping me edit everything over at the gug.  Those two guys answered all my the dumb questions I had along the way, sometimes two or three times…They also spent a lot of time training me on the software, and doing some of the more technical aspects of the editing.

Mike York for helping me come up with and develop the idea as I searched for how to give something in return for people donating.

Mike Coffey and all the board operators over at NDNation, Tim Prister, Pete Sampson, and Jack Freeman at Irish Illustrated, Todd Burlage at Blue and Gold, and Tim O’Malley at Irish Eyes, and to the others who posted things on their sites about my blog, thank you for putting a link to my blog on your sites and helping spread the word.

Catherine Soler the newly elected student body president for reaching out last year to get us involved in this event, and then allowing us to take a much more active role this year.  This girl is only a sophomore, and I can honestly say I’ve never been more impressed with another individual at this school.

Dr. Michael Mantello for challenging me to get at least 30 guys to shave their heads, and if we did, he promised to donate $3,000. He’s already delivered on his promise.

Bryan Jackson for giving me input as I created this site, as well as helping me make a big push over $10,000.

Charles Cavanaugh for helping in a huge way to getting me to my goal of $10,000.

YOU THE FANS AND SUPPORTERS I can honestly not say it enough, but you guys are what makes playing for this university so special.  I know I probably say this too much, but a lot of college kids get to play in front of 80,000 fans each Saturday, but few can say they’ve played in front of 80,000 Notre Dame fans.  You guys have changed my life more than you’ll ever know.

I apologize to anyone I forgot to include, I can assure you it was not on purpose.

Thank you again for everything.  My Saturdays next Fall will definitely be tougher to get through.

April 21, 2010

The fundraising will continue through the end of Saturday, so let’s continue the push.

A bunch of the guys from the football team came out to shave their heads today.

A TOTAL OF 53 GUYS FROM THE TEAM SHAVED THEIR HEADS TODAY!  More are planning on shaving later in the week, but had conflicts today so they couldn’t make it.   Over 60 guys total from the team came out to support the cause.

It’s pretty cool to think that well over half the football team came out to not only support but also shave their heads for this cause.  Pretty special.

Have a great night.

4/21 Great News

April 21, 2010

Thank you to everyone for helping me reach my goal of $5,000!  Right now we are at $5,551.

However, we are still short of the overall goal for the group as a whole of $50,000.

One donor sent me an e-mail saying if Dayne and I are able to get 30 football guys to shave their heads, he’ll contribute $3,000.

We’ll be shaving our heads tonight so we’ll know if we made the number later on today.

However, the fundraising will continue through the end of the day Friday 4/30, so I figured I had to come up with something to add an extra little push…

If you have watched my videos, you’ll know that I’m always pushing forward, accomplish one goal, time to set a new one even higher.  My new goal is $10,000.  If we can make that, I will bic (take a razor) to my head.  I’m hoping we can make this happen!

After we get 30 guys from the football team out tonight, we’ll get that $3,000 and be up to $8,551 at least, so just $1,449 away from me challenging Mr. Clean for the smoothest head.  We can definitely make this happen.  Thank you guys again for everything, and let’s help get closer to the overall fund raising goal of $50,000.

Thank you again for everything.

Had a great day today.  It looks like we are closing in on the $5,000 mark.  Will have an update for you tomorrow.

Tom Burke, Raeshon McNeil, John Ryan, and Sam Young along with  Courtney Rosen and Kelsey Lysander, women’s soccer players, came to Memorial Hospital with me today to visit with the kids in the Pediatric Oncology Ward.  The kids are absolutely incredible.  Each one of them a little shy, but nonetheless full of inspiration.

They were smiling from ear to ear.  The first little guy we met was real shy, although he did take a liking to John Ryan.  In fact he loved Johnny so much that he challenged him to play him in video games.  Johnny’s new best friend did not go easy on him either, he crushed him in the game.

An 8 year old girl said she loved playing soccer, but said what she really wanted was to play football, so she could be a linebacker.

Another girl was working on completing her GED while getting set to go to prom May 1st.  Then her next stop was off to culinary school.

One of the other girls we met had been managing her high school’s basketball team, and enjoying the freedom of finally getting her license.

We all walked away remembering one thing, no matter what was going on with those kids, they were always smiling.  That was the one thing I remember from working with these kids last year, and the main reason why I wanted to become so involved this year.

Hope you guys have a great night and an even better morning.  Thank you for all your support

We’re getting so close guys.  We just pushed over the half way point, and are currently sitting at $2,751 at the time of this post.

Let’s keep pushing, remember just $10 from another 225 people, and you will have helped me reach my goal.  We had over 1,000 people come to the site today, so we can definitely make it happen!

There are 2 ways to donate either via credit card through our donations page or by check.  Credit card is the easiest, because we can track our numbers much quicker, but either way works.

Just click the Donations link on the right of the page and it will walk you through how to pay by either credit card or check. If you have any trouble e-mail me (manello37@yahoo.com)

If you plan to send a check, shoot me an e-mail if you don’t mind.  I’m trying to keep the progress towards my goal of $5,000 as current as possible.

You guys are great.  Thank you again for everything.

Finally, if there is anything I can do for you, shoot me an e-mail.  Take care.

Back from Boston.  Still haven’t settled on an apartment…

I finished the last episode, Episode 6 The Highest Highs and the Lowest Lows (AF/Duke/Stan).

I also added TV highlights for both the (BC/USC/Navy) and the (AF/Duke/Stan).  The quality is a little off, but it was the best I could do.  I added the crazy interception return for a touchdown against Stanford just for fun.  That’s at the end of the AF/Duke/Stan highlight clip.

Someone created a highlight video of plays from my senior year, and so I just put that in at the bottom of the pages if you want to look at that…

Remember if you can donate just $10, it will go a long way to helping this great cause.  Every little bit counts, especially when we have strength in numbers.  I appreciate your support.

If you have any questions e-mail me at manello37@yahoo.com.

April 2, 2010

Just added the next episode, Episode 5 My First Date with Pete and the Boys (BC/USC/Navy).

I will try to get the next episode out sometime the week of 4/12 as all of next week I will be in Boston apartment searching, then NYC to visit some friends.

As soon as I can get an update on donations I’ll post it.  I’m excited to see the number.  I really appreciate all the e-mails and comments people have left so far.  You guys have changed my life!

Have a great weekend.

March 31, 2010

So…we went from 500 hits yesterday morning to over 3,800 at the time of this post about one day later.  When I said you guys were the best I guess that was an understatement!

I was able to add Episode 4 The Dream Continues (MSU/PU/UCLA) last night, so if you haven’t seen it yet check it out.  The next episode should be up by Friday at the latest.  This next episode is probably my favorite, so if you’ve liked the other ones, definitely come back and check this next one out.  It is going to be Episode 5 and will be about the BC, USC, and Navy games.

As I said in the last post, if you can pass this site on to your friends and family who might have interest that would be great.  The more awareness we can get for St. Baldrick’s the better.

Enjoy this great weather.

March 30, 2010

You guys are the best!  I put the site out to the public 4 days ago, and we’ve already had over 500 people check out the site.  Let’s try to keep the momentum going.  Please pass this on to any of your friends and family who might be interested in Notre Dame Football or just helping St. Baldricks.

I’m hoping to have at least one more episode (Episode 4 MSU, Purdue, and UCLA) up by tomorrow morning.

Again, thank you guys so much for coming to my site and supporting me.  You guys are what made playing for Notre Dame such an incredible experience for me.

Hope you enjoy.

March 26, 2010

Thank you for coming to my blog.  I hope you enjoy what I’ve put together.  I will be adding more episodes next week.  I wanted to wait and get some feedback before I created more though.

You can leave feedback with comments after the videos or here, or if you’d rather send it to me directly, my e-mail address is manello37@yahoo.com.

Have  a great weekend.
